This article explains why your Excel export may appear to overflow onto a second page width in Page Layout view, and how to fix it.
Why This Happens
This is a display issue with Excel, not a problem with the export itself. When the file is first opened, Page Layout view may not render the page boundaries correctly, making it look as though some content is spilling onto a second page to the right.
The layout is set to fit one page width, so the content is correct — Excel just hasn’t recalculated the display yet.
How to Fix It
Opening Print Preview forces Excel to recalculate the page layout. Once you cancel out of it, Page Layout view will display correctly.
- Right-click any sheet tab at the bottom of the file and select Select All Sheets to group all tabs.
- Go to File > Print to open Print Preview.
- Confirm the content fits correctly on one page width (it should).
- Click Cancel to exit Print Preview.
- Page Layout view will now show all pages fitting correctly on a single page width.
Good To Know
If you need to print or export to PDF from Excel, the content will always print correctly regardless of how it appears in Page Layout view. Print Preview is the most accurate representation of how your file will output.
