This guide explains how to use the Callouts Tool to add annotated callouts to sketches in a tech pack.
Callouts are used to document construction details, finishes, and special notes.
What the Callouts Tool Does
The Callouts Tool allows you to:
- Add text-based callouts linked to a specific area of a sketch
- Visually communicate construction details and notes
- Clarify information that is not captured by measurements alone
Where the Callouts Tool Is Used
The Callouts Tool is used only on Detail Sketches (DS).
- Primary Sketches (PS) are kept as clean garment sketches.
- Detail Sketches (DS) are where all annotations are created.
Step 1: Open the Callouts Tool
Open the Tech Pack Wizard panel.
Navigate to a Detail Sketch.
Select the Callouts Tool.
Step 2: Add a Callout
The Callouts Tool works similarly to the Line Tool.
With the Callouts Tool selected, click and drag on the sketch to create a leader line.
Release to place the callout text box.
- In the Tech Pack Wizard panel, click the check mark to accept and create the callout line.
Enter the callout text in the text field of the pop up window.
Sketches annotated with the Callout Tool are automatically placed on the Callouts page in the Tech Pack.
Step 3: Edit a Callout
To edit an existing callout:
Locate the callout text directly on the artboard.
Edit the callout text using Illustrator’s text editing tools.
Reposition the callout text box or leader line if needed.
Save the Illustrator file to ensure the changes are reflected in the tech pack.
Edits to callout text are reflected in the tech pack only after the file is saved.
Step 4: Use the Callouts Tool with the Zoom Tool (Optional)
The Zoom Tool can be used to create a focused Detail Sketch view before adding callouts.
This is useful when:
- A specific construction detail needs to be shown at a larger scale
- Multiple callouts are required in a small area
Refer to the Zoom Tool Help Centre guide for step-by-step instructions.
