My Colorways Aren’t Working

This article explains the most common reasons why colorways may not appear or behave as expected and how to resolve them.

Most Common Cause: The Primary Sketch Has No Fill

For colorways to work, Primary Sketches must have a fill color applied.

  • The fill can be any color, including white
  • If a sketch has no fill, the colorways page will not register the sketch

Even if the sketch appears visually correct, a missing fill will prevent the Colorways feature from recognizing the garment shape.

What to Check

  1. Select each part of the Primary Sketch.

  2. Confirm that a fill color is applied.

  3. If needed, apply a fill (white is recommended for CAD sketches).

Once a fill is applied, colorways should register correctly.

Known Limitations

Symmetry Tool Sketches

At this time, sketches created using the Symmetry Tool are not supported on the Colorways page.

Colorways may not register these sketches correctly.

Symbol Instances

Colorways do not currently work with symbol instances.

If your Primary Sketch includes symbol instances:

  • Colorways will not detect those shapes
  • The symbol will need to be expanded for colorways to work

Work in Progress

Support for the following on the Colorways page is actively being worked on:

  • Sketches created using the Symmetry Tool
  • Symbol instances

These limitations will be addressed in a future update.

If Colorways Still Aren’t Working

If you’ve confirmed:

  • The Primary Sketch has a fill applied
  • The sketch does not rely on symmetry or symbol instances

Then try the following:

  1. Save the Illustrator file.

  2. Press the reload button at the top of the plugin panel.

Saving or Reloading can resolve edge cases where changes do not immediately register.

Quick Checklist

If colorways aren’t working, check:

  • Does the Primary Sketch have a fill applied?
  • Does the sketch use the Symmetry Tool?
  • Does the sketch include symbol instances?
  • If needed, was the Illustrator file saved?
