This article explains why colors may not apply to a symbol on the Colorways page, and how to fix it.
Why This Happens
The Colorways page cannot apply color to live symbol instances. If your sketch includes a symbol that hasn’t had its link broken, it will not respond to color changes on the Colorways page.
How to Fix It
The symbol link needs to be broken before the Colorways page can detect and color it.
To break the symbol link:
- Right-click the symbol and select Break Link to Symbol, or
- Select the symbol and click the Break Link button in the top toolbar
Once the link is broken:
- Return to the Colorways page.
- Add your chosen Primary Sketch.
- Apply your color to the shape as normal.
The shape will now behave like regular artwork and respond to colorway changes correctly.
Known Limitation
Live symbol instances are not currently supported on the Colorways page. Breaking the symbol link is the required workaround for now.
